Constitution of Darmen |
The Parliament of Darmen is the national legislature of Darmen. The Parliament meets at the National Parliament Building in Scott City. It presently consists of 218 members and is led by the Speaker of Parliament, Shane Dahlmans.
Eligibilty[edit]
In order to be eligible for membership in the Parliament, candidates must be:
- at least 18 years old;
- received a favorable grade in the University Entrance Exam;
- have not committed any serious crimes;
- they may not concurrently be a member of the Executive Cabinet or any Municipal council; and
- they may not be a sitting judge, or active duty police officer or member of the National Defense Force.
Although the Constitution does not require candidates to be citizens of Darmen, it does require them to have their primary residence in the constituency they represent.
Composition[edit]
Currently, the Parliament consists of 218 members. The reforms instituted following the 2045 election have introduced changes to the electoral system: the municipal constituencies have been replaced with regional constituencies, the number of seats for Darmenis living overseas has increased from four to 18, ten seats reserved for Darmen's Aboriginal population have been introduced, while seats for the Chamber of Commerce, Darmen Labor Alliance and the Students' Union have been eliminated. Regional constituencies have one seat for every 50,000 residents.
